M4H is located in the West of Rotterdam. Now mainly used by creatives and party goers, a zoning plan that includes housing is in the making for the former industrial area. Placemaking is a tool often used before the transformation of an area, but what if these placemakers could be part of the new housing plan itself?
Stages for temporalities is a concept proposed for the new housing plan in M4H. The main focus of this project was to work on multiple scales at ones, being able to think of the small details of community and neighbourhood life, while also keeping in mind the bigger picture of the large M4H area as a whole. The stages that are implemented throughout the site plan facilitate the residents in using the space in various ways, providing the means for a lot of different activities.
Thus thinking of how people move and use outdoor or communal spaces was at the forefront of the design process. The result was a toolkit, in which the different activities have been linked to 6 minimal architectural means. While designing the site plan, specific areas have been picked out to include these objects.

The block is a courtyard, that consists of studio spaces and shared housing. Each apartment has a dedicated square metres in the floor plan for making and/or crafting space. The repetition in the facades refers to the old plantation as well. The former use of brick however has been replaces with wood, creating a softer and more intimate outside feeling to the inside of the courtyard.
